Introduction

Department of Education  was established in the year 1971. The founder head of the department was Mrs. Bani Baruah. The major course in the department was started in 1989. The department has four teaching and one non teaching staff faculty. The department has been playing a pivotal role in imparting quality higher education in UG level since1971. The department offers three years Honours Course in B.A. programme under the CBCS system. The Department has been providing different certificate course for the college students since 2021-22. Education as department aims at helping the students in all round development. The department strives to provide knowledge, skills, attitude and values of different thrust areas. The thurst areas includes Educational Psychology, Educational Technology, Educational Management, Educational Philosophy, Educational Sociology, Teacher Education, Education and Development and Educational Statistics.

History

Department of Education, Morigaon College, is one of the oldest department of the Morigaon College which was established in the year 1971. The founder head of the department was Mrs. Bani Baruah. The major course in the department was started from 1989. The department has four teaching and one non teaching staff faculty. The department has been playing a pivotal role in imparting quality higher education since its inception. The department offers three years Honours Course in B.A. programme under the CBCS system. Different faculty members had provided their service  to the Department,  namely Mrs. Bani Baruah as the founder of the department (1972-2007), Mr. Probin Ch. Manta (1974-2004), Mr. Dhanti Bora (1989-2018), Bornali Teron (2009-2012),  Nilakshi Bora (2009-2014), and Himadri Sarma (2016-2018).

Aim

The Education department of Morigaon college aims at preparing learner-sensitive educators with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to contribute to a better society. The department envisions a world in which education positively contributes to each person's ability to reach their potential in acting for society's good. The departnement also aims at preparing the learner for further higher education.

1. BA with Education (Honours Course) under CBCS

3.  Six months Certificate course on Early Childhood Care and Education 
4.  Six months Certificate course on Educational Management
5. Six months Certificate course on "An introduction to Teaching-Learning Pedagogy".

1. The department has only four (4) faculty members.
2. The departmental library has inadequate number of Books.
3. The department has no Psychological Laboratory.
4. Inadequate classroom facilities.
5. No computer with internet facility.
6. Teacher pupil ratio is very high.

Opportunities

Challenges

1. Difficulty in providing Individual attention to students due to insufficient number of faculty members.
2. Conducting Psychological practical without a Psychological Laboratory.

Activities of the Department

1. A seminar for students was conducted on the topic “Youth unrest and Education” on 22nd June, 2022.
2. A National webinar on the topic “The changing phases of learning in Higher education due to Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on Mental health and uncertainty among students” was conducted by the Department on 24th June, 2021.
3. A Felicitation activity was conducted by the Department on 12th November, 2022. To felicitate our Alumni, Miss Priya Mundra for securing 3rd position (AIR) in NET JRF in June, 2022.
4. National Education Day was observed jointly by the Department of Education and IQAC of Morigaon College on 11th November, 2022.
5.  Every year Teacher’s Day is observed by the department on 5th of September.
6. Every year the department observes Farewell and Freshman Social for the students.

1. Nilakshi Borah got selected as an Assitant Professor at North Guwahati College
2. Malabika Hazarika got selected as an Assistant Professor at Tihu College.
3. Miss Priya Mundra secured 3rd Position (AIR) in NET JRF exam conducted by NTA in the year 2022.
4. Luna Bhuyan  participated in Intercollege Online singing competition and secured  1st  prize.
5. Nilanjana Devi participated in Debate competition organized by District Authority Morigaon on Voters’ Day  and secured 2nd  prize (Individual).
6. Nilanjana Devi had participated in Inter College Assamese Poem Recitation Competition and secured 2nd Prize.
7. Luna Bhuyan participated in Intra college Rabha Sangeet Competition and secured 1st Prize.
8. Dipankar Das participated in Intra College Running race competition and secured the following position:100 metre- 2nd Prize, 200 meter -3rd Prize-400 meter-2nd Prize
